The Executive Committee of the International Human Rights Network of Academies and Scholarly Societies condemns in the strongest terms the Russian attack on the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The Ukrainian Academy, like national science academies worldwide, is an institution that promotes evidence-based research for the benefit of society. It is not a target of armed conflict.

As members of the global scientific community, and ourselves national academy members, we extend our deepest condolences to our Ukrainian colleagues and reaffirm our support for international humanitarian and human rights law, which forbid attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
